The Caller
Jason: I watched this movie with my wife and she summed it up best when she said “That's fucked up.” Her words. Not mine. But it is. Sure, it's got Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Ray Winstone and Michael Shannon. But they all have very small parts. Everything moves at a snail's pace and the action gets very repetitive. That said I did get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach every time the roulette rounds began. For three brief moments throughout the movie I was able to put myself in the characters' shoes, and I didn't like it one bit. But that's not enough for me to ever recommend this movie or watch it again. A Bad from me.
Shawn: Wow. I came into this movie not knowing a damn thing. I was waiting for Jason Statham to be awesome and Mickey Rourke to fuck someone up. Neither happened. Disappointed. But then I got taken in by what the hell was actually going on. I don’t want to ruin it for anyone, but this was intense as hell. I really dug it. And no cookie-cutter ending here. My favorite kinds of movies are the ones that end like this. Definitely a Good. I will watch it again, but I recommend you watch it not knowing a thing about it.
The Caller
Jason: This is a nifty little thriller that makes up for its sluggish pace by throwing an original idea at the screen and seeing what happens. No, it's not gory. Yes, you have to accept the premise and just roll with it. No, hanging up on the bitch isn't an option. This is more thriller than horror film, although the idea is horrifying. The sequence where she is burned in the past and the scars show on her body in the present is one of the most effective scenes I've seen in a long time. Rachelle Lefevre is awesome in this. Not only is she great eye candy, but she played a proactive woman in distress. She was as smart as she is sexy. A Good for sure.
Shawn: Why in the hell would someone have a rotary phone in 2011? That alone was creepy enough. Nicely done movie people. Besides being a very depressing movie, it was also very creepy. I don’t really have a lot to say about the movie other than I liked it for the most part. It was a lot more drawn out than it should have been, but it's a good ride too. I will watch it again, although a second watch wouldn’t be near as much fun. And why haven't I seen Rachelle Lefevre in anything else? A Good.
