And what a gruesome thing of beauty it is. Shawn and I didn't need to be told twice that the new Universal Soldier flick would be bad to the ass. Universal Soldier: Regeneration was all that and a bag of candy. Re-teaming Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren for a third time is, well, the charm.
Now the two 80s-action icons and director John Hyams have added up-and-comer Scott Adkins to the mix. And he and Andrei Arlovski get jiggy with it in this clip from the film, which is unspooling as I write this.
Keeping in the tradition of Regeneration, it's a great -- and brutal -- fight. The kind we love here in The Basement, and we don't use the world love very often.
Day of Reckoning follows John (Adkins), who awakens from a coma to discover his wife and daughter were slaughtered in a brutal home invasion. Haunted by images of the attack, he vows to kill the man responsible: Luc Deveraux (Van Damme). While John tries to piece his reality back together, things get more complicated when he is pursued by a relentless UniSol named Magnus (Arlovski).
How all this ties into the last few movies, which featured Van Damme as the hero, remains to be seen. But we'll give it the benefit of the doubt.
Now get your ass kicked with this clip!
