R.I.P. Paul Walker

Actor Paul Walker , perhaps best know for his role in The Fast and the Furious movies , has died. He was 40 and leaves behind a 15-year-old daughter. Word has it he was a passenger in a friend's car when the vehicle crashed. His death was confirmed in a tweet by New Regency productions . He was attending a charity event for Reach Out Worldwide at the time. Walker was working on the latest Fast and Furious movie under director James Wan and had another film, Hours, slated for release this month. A statement by Universal: "All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the 'Fast and Furious' films, and to countless fans." While the Fast and Furious movies were Walker's gravy train, he also did stellar work in the flick Running Scared , a Basement favourite. No one likes to see someone's life end

A new look at Tom Hardy as Mad Max

Yes, George Miller's latest installment in his Mad Max franchise is still a couple of years away, but our boys at Arrow in the Head have scored a new look at the new Max. And it can be confirmed that Tom Hardy , who steps in for Mel Gibson , does indeed look like the Road Warrior . This is a good thing. Observe: We don't know much about Mad Max: Fury Road other than it's a continuation of the series, not a reboot or remake. Gibson didn't return because, well, you know. Mad Max: Fury Road also stars Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. It hits theatres in the three-extra-dollars format on May 15, 2015 Source: Arrow in the Head Related articles 'Mad Max' Reboot Starring Tom Hardy to Be Released in Summer 2015 Mad Max:Fury Road Starring Tom Hardy - Coming Summer 2015 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Set For Summer 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road Directed by George Miller Set for May 2015 Release New Set Photo of Tom Hardy as Mad

Jason and Shawn versus Bounty Killer and I Declare War

Bounty Killer Jason: I am madly in lust with Mary Death, AKA Christian Pitre. She's one bad ass chick and looks dead sexy in every shot she's in. And although exceptionally hot, I still believed she could kick all that ass. Kudos to her. Bounty Killer does overstay it's welcome a bit. And Gary Busey is underused, although he was probably drunk and/or high for most of the filming. But I'd still watch this again. There's been few movies in the last year that have been as violent, bloody, funny and sexy as this. Which is to say I was highly entertained by this flick. It's a Good. Shawn: Now here is a movie that is geared for adults in every way, shape and form. Did I dig this post apocalyptic business killing dreamland? You betcha, I had a great time....for one watch. I'll give it a Bad, but it was much closer to a Good than some. It dragged on a tad too long, tried to tie in too much story in a movie that was mostly straight forward. I wouldn&#

Jason versus The World's End

Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and writer/director Edgar Wright hit comedy gold with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Do the comedic trio score a hat trick with their latest effort? Stick with me! Five friends who reunite in an attempt to top their epic pub crawl from 20 years earlier unwittingly become humankind's only hope for survival. First off no, this isn't as funny as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz. Which isn't to say that it isn't hilarious or equally as entertaining. But The World's End isn't a laugh riot, although it is pretty damn funny. Reading my email? The World's End is more reflective; it's a study of one hitting middle age with a career, wife and kids -- or, as is the case with Pegg's character, hitting middle age with none of the above -- and looking back on your youth and dreams for the future and how it all sorted out. It's also a movie about aliens taking over the world. For the record. Suffice to say, The World's End

Horror Hottie Month: Bounty Killer, I Declare War and the Jessica Cameron interview

What's the only thing better than one horror hottie? How about two! Which is why The Basement's Horror Hottie Month continues with a 30-minute conversation with award-winning, Canadian-born scream queen Jessica Cameron . Jessica starred in dozens of projects before doing double duty on the horror flick Truth or Dare, which is currently earning rave reviews on the festival circuit. When Jessica wasn't being menaced in front of the camera on this dark tale, she was calling the shots behind the scenes in her directorial debut . This scream queen is one candid chick, and the interview she had with Jason is one Basementites won't soon forget. As Jason and Shawn like to say, stick with us! And stick around for reviews of the post-apocalyptic action/comedy Bounty Killer and the Canadian action flick I Declare War. Well, it's as actiony as a movie about 11 year olds can get. How do these two flicks stack up? Tune in tomorrow morning when the podcast goes live!

80s horror anthology Monsters heads to DVD

I never got to check out any of the 72 episodes that made up the hit syndicated show Monsters during its original run from 1988 to 1991. Nor have I caught the reruns on Syfy or Chiller , or our Space network for that matter. But Basementites will soon have the chance as the complete series is scheduled for release on DVD via Entertainment One on Feb. 25 with a retail price of about $100. No special features have been announced for the nine-disc set. Monsters was produced by the same company behind the popular Tales from the Darkside TV series , and featured such notable guests as John Saxon , Lili Taylor , Meat Loaf, and Adrienne Barbeau . The DVD box art is by way of Fangoria. Can't say it does much for me. Jason Voorhees kills again in 2015

First the latest chapter in the Insidious franchise claimed a 2015 release date and now another popular, and long running, horror series has asked fans to save the date that year. The next Friday the 13th movie lands on March 13, 2015. That's a Friday, for the record. Nothing else is known about the flick. There's no script or director attached, no confirmation on whether or not it'll be a direct sequel to the 2009 film or found footage, as some recent rumours suggest. And no one has been cast, so who's to say if Derek Mears , Kane Hodder or any of the other former Jasons will once again put on the hockey mask and wield the machete. What we do know is countless Friday the 13th fans just plugged that date into their calendar. More on this project as it develops.
