I'm probably one of eight people on the planet who didn't mind the film adaptation of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I thought Sean Connery owned the flick, and enjoyed the concept. Never read the comic. Didn't care to.
Showtime's upcoming Penny Dreadful TV series is a horror riff on the idea, with some of literature's most terrifying character coming together to battle evil in Victorian London. Suffice to say, some groovy and creepy shat goes down.
Check out the trailer, and judge for yourselves:
The pedigree is what's really selling me. I've always dug Josh Hartnett and who doesn't dig Eva Green (statement). Timothy Dalton is usually quite good. Plus this is put together by screenwriter John Logan (Gladiator, The Last Samurai) and Skyfall director Sam Mendes. Yup. Gonna give this a watch.
Penny Dreadful premieres Sunday, May 11, at 10 p.m. Eastern and Specific . . . I mean Pacific.
