Sometimes you just can't beat a good monster movie. Know what I'm saying? Course you do, Basementite. And that's exactly what I was in the mood for tonight. Does the Austrian import Blood Glacier deliver? Stick with me!
Scientists working in the Austrian Alps discover that a glacier is leaking a liquid that is affecting the local wildlife.
Blood Glacier has, what Shawn would call, a boat load of potential. Unfortunately, it fails to deliver on most levels, taking too long to get going and not delivering enough pay off. Oh, and all the money went into the sweet locations and not the monsters, which look like puppets. Don't get me wrong. I dig practical effects, but still. Puppets? Really?
Now, there is some good gore and a few decent shocks, but not enough to sustain my interest for the entire running. Even the beauty that is Edita Malovcic couldn't quite keep my attention, at least through the scenes where she's not on screen.
In the end, I wanted and expected a lot more from Blood Glacier. It looked like a blood relative to John Carpenter's The Thing, and certainly has some similarities, but it doesn't even come close to being the awesome that movie is.
Puppets? Really?
In the end, Blood Glacier rates a Bad. If you are a monster movie completists, go for it. Otherwise, meh.
